Week 11 Thursday Night Recap

There was lots of action on Thursday night in the area with nine games on the slate, so lets recap what went down.

Lone Star Hangs On, Nabs 3rd Straight District Title

Lone Star needed either a win or a loss by 10 or less to claim the 5-5A DI district championship, and it was able to survive a late comeback by Reedy with its backup quarterback to win 28-26.

Reedy had a lot of early momentum in this one, but Lincoln Harn went out of the game after Reedy’s second drive and that gave Lone Star just enough of an advantage to prevail.

Trey Wright put up 221 total yards and three touchdowns to help lead Lone Star to the win, but it was the defense that stood tall at the last possible moment.

Inside of a minute to go, Reedy scored on a 10-yard rope from DJ Carlisle to Ben Francis to make it 28-26 with a 2-point conversion try upcoming. The defense sent a full-out blitz on Carlisle and got to him before he could make an attempt and preserve the lead and the win.

Lone Star will meet North Mesquite in the first round next week as it won its do-or-die matchup on Thursday. Reedy finishes 3rd in the district standings and will await the winner of Friday night’s matchup between Carrollton Creekview and Carrollton Smith to decide 2nd and 3rd place. Wakeland gets the loser of that one.

Hebron Dominates Its Way to a Playoff Spot

Needing either a win or a Marcus loss, Hebron made sure to leave no doubt as to which team would claim the 4th spot out of 5-6A, as it trashed Flower Mound 38-3 on the road.

Brady Brock threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as Hebron outgained the Jaguars 460 to 102 despite losing the turnover battle 2-1. Ayson McCray-Jones had a big game too with 28 carries for 199 yards and touchdown.

With Hebron’s win, it claims the runner-up spot in 6A Division II and it will meet Prosper out of 6-6A in the first round next week.

Marcus Falls to Coppell

It looked like an intriguing game early on as Marcus had only one path to the playoffs – win and hope for a Hebron loss. Neither of those happened as Marcus could not keep up Coppell.

After leading 13-7 midway through the second quarter, the Marcus defense surrendered 31 straight points to Coppell on the way to a 38-13 loss, which ends the Marauders season on the outside looking in again.

Lewisville Struggles With Little Elm

Lewisville won but on the heels of a loss last week to Guyer, looked like a sleepwalking team against winless Little Elm. However, the Farmers did enough to pull out the 24-16 win and earn a first round matchup with Allen next week.

Sanger, Farmersville Say ‘What Am Defense?’

Ninety-one to fifty-six. Read that again: 91-56. That was the final score in Sanger on Thursday night in a game that absolutely not playoff implications. However, an offensive shootout took place as the Indians, at least according to John Field from the Denton Record-Chronicle, scored a program best 91 points and gained over 800 yards of offense.

Sanger already had the 2nd place spot locked up out of 5-4A DII and will most likely face Quinlan Ford in the first round next week, barring some disastrous performance on Friday night.

Other Games

Northwest finishes off a disappointing season with a 19-7 loss to Timber Creek to finish in last place out of 4-6A.

Guyer laid waste to Braswell with a 42-0 trouncing at Carrico to complete the undefeated district mark.

Denton was no match for Aledo, losing 77-0.

Celina made easy work of Lake Dallas in a 48-7 road win.
